Flutes

Our top quality simple system wooden flutes are available for traditional music players at modern concert pitch (a=440Hz).

The flutes are made by Tony Millyard, and where keys are required they are fitted by Sophie Matthews. We often supply flute without keys which can then be returned to us at a later date for keys to be added as required.

We offer traditional flutes in two models with options on keys and style. Based on 19th Century flutes by Messrs. Rudall and Rose and by Mr Pratten, these flutes offer a range of playing styles which should suit most players of traditional music. For more information on these models please click on the links in the side menu.

The key of each flute is stated as the 6 finger note of the instrument. For example a D flute will play a concert D note with 6 fingers down.

Flutes in Stock

See the side menu for a list of flutes available from stock. All flutes are supplied with a Flute Roll to keep the flute in, along with a pull through stick for cleaning, cork grease and some spare binding thread.

Matt Dean has provided some videos of him playing a selection of our D and F flutes. See them here at our YouTube Channel .

I have also recently added a video here of how to rebind the tenon thread on our flutes.

Festivals and visits to our Workshop
We are not planning to be at any festivals this year, but customers are usually welcome to come to the workshop by appointment to see the flutes and oboes we have in stock snd discuss options.

We are also always happy to send out instruments on approval. Please contact us if you would like to try an instrument.
